Did an illustration for Wonka Vision Magazine the other week for the Album Reviews section. It features reviews from the newest albums from Weezer, Easter Monkeys, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Devo, Rocky Votolato, Banner Pilot, Tegan and Sarah, Rise and Fall, Jello Biafra, The Wonder Years, Protest the Hero and A Lull. The headline for the review section is BULLYING THE JUKE. After a little thought, the title ultimately brought to mind to me the imagery of a intimidating biker dude at a bar hogging an old tyme jukebox, playing The Allman Bros. "Whipping Post Live" non-stop. He's thinking "Your selection are not welcome here. If you try to play anything, especially Lady Gaga, I will double tap you in the head."
Below is a selected step by step of the process from sketch to final. Pencils, inks, then digital coloring. Click 'em to enlarge.

Here's blurb from the "ABOUT US" section of the website:
"In 1998, Wonka Vision entered the world as a cut-and-paste, stapled-together, punk rock fanzine created in an 18-year old kid’s bedroom with a glue stick and some scissors. Released by the same Publisher & Writer’s all along the way, 2009 marks Wonka Vision’s 11th year as one of the country’s still-standing D.I.Y. magazines truly dedicated to Independent Music, Controversial & Important Artists and Underground (now called popular?) Counter-Culture. Despite its slick, colorful, glossy appearance, the Wonka team works out of their home office in South Philadelphia grinding out 80 hours a week creating their beloved publication. Wonka Vision is run by an almost completely volunteer staff of open-minded and eclectic punk rock kids between the ages of 18-30. Our readers? A lot of them have become Writers, Illustrators & Designers. We know our readers and we understand what our readers want, well, because we ARE our readers."
"After celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Wonka Vision Magazine is entering its second year with Curtis Circulation (Distributors for Maxim, Marvel Comics, Sports Illustrated, Alternative Press, Rolling Stone) and is steadily releasing a hundred page, bi-monthly publication with a readership per issue of over 90,000 people. Wonka Vision Magazine can now be purchased in over 25 countries; in national stores like Barnes & Noble and Borders to hundreds of mom & pop book and record stores all over the world. Projected on-shelves goals in 2008 include key chains such as Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, Albertsons, Safeway, Walgreens, Rite Aid, 7-11, among many others."
